The Art of Resonance

What happens when something meets you?

Resonance is a word we hear everywhere. “That really resonates with me.” “I'm not resonating with this anymore.” “Find your frequency.”

But what actually is resonance?

I began exploring this question through my work with tuning forks, vibration and frequency at Soul Resonation. What started as an interest in sound became something much bigger.

Because resonance isn't really about tuning forks.

It's about relationship, interaction and response.

And once I began looking at resonance that way, I realised something fascinating:

We are resonating — and tuning — all the time.

Vibration, Frequency & Resonance

These words are often used interchangeably, but they aren't the same thing.

Vibration is movement or oscillation.

Frequency describes how often that vibration repeats.

Resonance becomes relevant when one vibrating system interacts with another and a response occurs.

Strike a tuning fork and it vibrates at its particular frequency. Bring that vibration into relationship with something else and the interaction becomes the interesting part.

And while physical resonance has a precise meaning in acoustics and physics, I also use resonance more broadly at Soul Resonation as a way of exploring human response and relationship.

Because think about ordinary life. A piece of music gives you goosebumps. A scent suddenly brings back a memory.

Someone says a sentence that lands so deeply you think, YES. That's it. A person intrigues you. A place feels inviting. An idea leaves you completely unmoved. Something has met you.

And you have responded.

Resonance Isnt Always a YES!

We often say something “resonates” when we like it, agree with it or feel drawn toward it. But I think the exploration is much richer than that. When something meets us there can be resonance, amplification, attraction, dissonance, resistance, rejection, curiosity or complete neutrality.

Something may draw us closer.

Something may make us pull away.

Something may strengthen what is already present.

Something may challenge it.

Something else may pass through our world without creating much response at all.

None of these automatically means good, bad, right or wrong.

They tell us something about the relationship occurring between this particular offer and this particular participant, at this particular moment. That's why I'm less interested in asking:

“Does this resonate — yes or no?”

and much more interested in asking:

“What happens in me when I meet this?”

That question opens an exploration.

You Are Already Tuning

Tuning can sound like something mysterious that requires special knowledge. Yet I think we're doing it as naturally and subtly as breathing.

A sound catches your attention.

You move toward one conversation and away from another.

You choose particular music.

A person interests you.

An idea excites you.

You stay.

You leave.

You explore.

You ignore.

Toward. Away. Closer. Further.

We continually orient ourselves among countless available signals, usually without consciously noticing that we're doing it.

And sometimes something may appear available or inviting while another part of us responds: Not yet. That response matters too.

The aim isn't to force ourselves to resonate with everything. Perhaps tuning begins simply by becoming curious about the movements that are already occurring.

**You don't need to learn how to tune.

You can begin by noticing that you already are.**

Making Vibration Physical

This is where tuning forks enter my work.

A tuning fork gives something normally invisible a remarkably tangible form. Vibration can be heard. Felt. Moved. Followed.

At Soul Resonation I explore this in two main ways.

BODY TUNING

Weighted tuning forks can be used in contact with the body, allowing vibration to become a direct physical sensory experience.

Different frequencies, placements, rhythms and durations create different offers for the person receiving them.

My collection of weighted forks gives me a wonderful palette to explore with. I don't see a frequency as a magic instruction that tells the body what it must do.

The fork makes an offer. The body participates.

FIELD TUNING

With unweighted forks I can also explore vibration through the space around the body. Here, movement becomes part of the composition.

I may sweep, spiral, approach, withdraw, cross, hold, follow, create infinity movements, explore boundaries or return through an area.

A fork can remain still.

Move toward.

Move away.

Cross another pathway.

Return.

The frequency may remain the same — yet the relationship being offered changes through movement, position, timing and participation. And that is where tuning becomes an art.

I Dont Tune You to "Correct"

Imagine turning on a radio. Countless stations may be broadcasting simultaneously, but your radio isn't playing all of them. It is tuned to a particular signal. Move the dial and another station becomes available.

The previous station wasn't wrong. Another signal simply entered your experience.

That's a useful analogy for how I approach Resonance Tuning. Through frequency, vibration, movement and placement, I can introduce another signal. But I don't decide what you should do with it. I don't believe my job is to discover your correct frequency and tune you back to it.

I can offer another station.

You decide whether you go there.

Perhaps your system responds strongly.

Perhaps something softens.

Perhaps there's curiosity.

Perhaps resistance.

Perhaps nothing particularly noticeable happens.

That participation belongs to you.

My role is to listen — to sound, movement, subtle changes and my own intuitive responses — and work through three very simple principles:

NOTICE • ALLOW • FOLLOW

Rather than forcing an outcome, I become curious about what happens next.

Experience The Art Of Resonance

Understanding resonance is fascinating.

Experiencing it is something else entirely.

At Soul Resonation, my Resonance Tuning experience brings Body Tuning and Field Tuning together, allowing vibration, sound, movement and your own participation to become the exploration.

And for those wanting to go much deeper, there is Sacred Air.

Sacred Air expands the exploration through Bio-Well, Bio-Cor, frequency, sound, Body Tuning and Field Tuning, bringing technology and intuitive composition together within an immersive 2.5-hour experience.

It isn't about discovering the frequency you're supposed to be.

It's an opportunity to become curious about something far more interesting:

What happens when new signals enter the conversation?

You Are Already Resonating

You don't need a tuning fork to encounter resonance. You've been experiencing relationship and response your entire life.

Through music.

People.

Ideas.

Places.

Nature.

Touch.

Words.

Memories.

Silence.

Perhaps the invitation isn't to try to make everything resonate.

Perhaps it is simply to become a little more aware of the extraordinary interaction already taking place:

What meets me?

How do I respond?

What becomes stronger?

What do I move toward — or away from?

And perhaps the most interesting question of all:

What becomes possible when I tune somewhere new?
